Samsung T5 : T7 cannot be recognized on MacBook solution reference

Solution Reference for Samsung T5 / T7 Not Recognized on MacBook#

First, the conclusion: Disable the security mode to use it normally.

Recently, I found my unused T5 hard drive after many years. In order to make it work properly on my Mac, I searched through various tutorials, but there was very little relevant information available, and none of them were compatible with the M series chips. Whether it was uninstalling and reinstalling the password driver, or shutting down to recovery mode to lower the system security level, none of them worked. By chance, I logged in to the T5 portable hard drive on a Windows system, disabled the security mode, and then plugged it back into my Mac. Surprisingly, it worked. This is quite dramatic and it seems that Samsung's password plugin currently does not support M series chips.

Disable Security Mode#

  • Based on the premise of using Windows (unfortunately, macOS does not support it for now, so we have to find a supported system to disable the password lock), install the password software "samsung portable ssd.exe" that comes with the hard drive.
  • Enter the password, go to settings, and uncheck the security mode.
  • Enter the password again.
  • Done. Plug the T5 back into your MacBook and it should open normally. The same applies to T7.
